extreme sports photography photographers

FEBRUARY 2008

This is an annual photographic competition run by Sea Vision UK, a national campaign working to raise awareness and understanding of the sea and maritime activities.

The competition is a key part of the campaign attracting an enormous number of entries from both amateur and professional photographers.

The competition, which attracted over 1,000 entries, was split into three categories. Commercial, Leisure and Heritage.

I won first prize in the leisure category with this photograph of a windsurfer captured off Gower. It was taken using a Nikon D70 and a sigma 28-300 lens

Claire Sneddon, Sea Vision’s communications manager says she was suitably impressed with the overall standard of entries.

“There were some fabulous pictures to choose from, really demonstrating the variety, interest and beauty of our coastline and the sea.

“We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition and to congratulate the winners on their success.”

The photograph will now form part of a Sea Vision’s touring exhibition and website.

My background is in journalism having worked for a variety of newspapers together with radio and TV but have always had an interest in photography. I now spend much of my time taking photographs of extreme sport, particularly those involving water.

I am 61 years old (mentally 18) with two grown up children and two grandchildren and still active counting swimming, skiing, kayaking, cycling and walking amongst my hobbies.

This is the first competition I have entered and I am obviously delighted at supplying one of the winning photographs.
